Who this is for

For banking, lending, wealth, and finance operations teams

Financial records pack many identifiers onto one page: names, account and card numbers, balances, counterparties, and addresses. They are shared constantly, with auditors, investigators, litigants, and acquirers, and each recipient needs only part of the picture.

  • Operations and back-office teams answering records requests
  • Financial-crime and investigation units
  • Lending and underwriting teams sharing application files
  • Legal teams producing financial records in disputes

Sensitive information

What finance teams commonly need to protect

  • Account and card identifiers

Account, card, sort or routing numbers, and wallet or reference IDs printed across statements.

  • Client identity

Names, addresses, tax and identity numbers, and copies of identity documents in onboarding packs.

  • Transaction detail

Counterparties, amounts, payment references, and balances that reveal more than the recipient needs.

  • Spoken verification details

Account numbers, dates of birth, and security answers read out in recorded calls.

Practical challenges

Why redaction is harder than it looks here

  1. 01

    Tables are dense

Statements and ledgers repeat identifiers in columns, headers, and footers on every page, which makes a single missed occurrence easy and costly.

  2. 02

    Partial disclosure is the norm

A recipient may need the transaction history but not the account number, or the amount but not the counterparty. Redaction has to be selective, not wholesale.

  3. 03

    Calls carry verification details

Recorded instructions and service calls can contain spoken account numbers or security answers that must not travel with the recording.

  4. 04

    Native exports meet scans

Application packs often combine system-generated PDFs with scanned identity and income documents that have no text layer.

How OpenRedakt supports finance workflows

Each workflow lists the capabilities that apply, with the conditions that affect them in practice.

Documents (primary format)

Statements, applications, and loan files

Open statement exports as PDFs, recognise text on scanned supporting documents, review candidate identifiers, and add precise text or area marks so that only the fields the recipient should not see are removed.

Supported capabilities

  • Open PDFs, images, and supported office formats for review.Non-PDF formats are converted at import; some formats require LibreOffice.
  • Run OCR on scans and image-based pages when OCR tooling is configured.Recognition quality depends on the source and installed OCR tooling.
  • Surface candidate sensitive information for reviewer assessment.Available categories and engines depend on local model or optional job configuration.
  • Add text and area redactions directly on a document page.
  • Review, edit, approve, reject, and record reasons for redaction marks.
  • Re-open and inspect supported document output before it is used.Output checking supports review; it is not a guarantee that every sensitive item was found.
  • Create a report describing reviewed redaction actions.

Capability boundaries

Considerations before you evaluate

  • Candidate categories depend on the configured engine. Test detection with your own statement layouts and identifier formats.
  • Audio redaction is manual-first. Reviewers mark spoken account or verification details on the timeline; automated transcript analysis is not presented as a complete workflow.
  • OpenRedakt does not claim certification under payment-card or financial-sector security standards.
  • It is a desktop review application, not a document-management, archiving, or retention system.
